Converter is a kind of commonly used steelmaking furnace. Generally, it is a cylindrical oxygen-blowing steelmaking vessel that can be tilted. The furnace body is cylindrical and is mounted on a horizontal shaft frame, which can be rotated and used for steelmaking. Since the working conditions of each part of the converter vary greatly, the damage of each furnace lining is different. Therefore, magnesia-carbon bricks with good high temperature resistance, strong slag resistance, good thermal shock resistance, and low high temperature creep are compatible with converters. The most used refractory bricks in various parts of the converter are magnesia carbon bricks, so let’s take a look at which parts of the converter lining need to use it.
Furnace mouth and furnace cap
The refractory bricks used in this part are required to have high thermal shock resistance and slag resistance, which can effectively resist the scour from high-temperature furnace gas and the splash of the furnace. Therefore, magnesia carbon bricks with high temperature resistance and high strength are mainly used.
Charging side of furnace lining
The charging side of the converter requires that the masonry refractory bricks have high high temperature strength, good thermal shock resistance and high slag resistance. Therefore, most of the magnesia carbon bricks with high corrosion resistance and high thermal shock resistance are used in this area.
Trunnions on both sides
In addition to being eroded by molten steel and slag during the blowing process, it is also scoured and oxidized by the air flow. There is no slag layer on the surface, so the carbon in the lining brick is easily oxidized. In addition, it is not easy to repair after damage. Corrosion is serious, and masonry should use high oxidation resistance and high carbon content.
Slag line
Since this part has been in contact with slag for a long time, it is a serious part corroded by slag. Coupled with other effects on the belly of the converter during the blowing process, this part is more severely eroded. Therefore, refractory bricks with high corrosion resistance should be selected.
Part of molten pool
Although it is eroded by molten steel during the blowing process, compared with other parts, the damage is lighter, and the slag splashing operation of the converter often makes the bottom of the converter rise, so the molten pool of the converter can be used.
Hearth and Bottom
These parts are severely scoured by molten steel during blowing, but compared with other parts, the damage rate is lower, and magnesia carbon bricks with low carbon content can be selected.
Tap part
The taphole is eroded and scoured by high-temperature molten steel and slag, and affected by rapid temperature changes, and the damage is serious. Therefore, it should be built with good erosion resistance and high oxidation resistance. Generally, integral or combined magnesia-carbon bricks are used. And after a certain number of uses, it needs to be repaired or replaced.
